10 Questions with Uriah Guilford

Uriah: Hi this is Uriah with Productive Therapist and this is “10 Questions with Me”. So this is a new series I think you’re going to love where we get fun and smart people to answer the same 10 questions. We will be including some of our staff, some of our clients, and other therapists across the country. So let’s jump in.

The first question is:

#1 What is your name and job title or license title?

So you know me, I’m Uriah Guilford, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. And although, I know it’s kind of boring whenever I have to fill out a form that says “position” or “title” I always just put “owner”, so that’s what I’m gonna go with.

#2 What do you love about your job or your business?

So many things. I could and probably should do a whole podcast on this, but I love the freedom that it gives me in my life, and I really enjoy working with some amazing smart people to accomplish goals that I feel like are really meaningful. Helping therapists with the Productive Therapist and also supporting therapists in my group practice to do really good work and help our community. So many good things.

#3 What are 1-2 things that you always do in the first 60-90 minutes of your day?

Two of the most important things that I do every morning are: make a cup of black tea for my wife and I, and I also take about a 25-30 minute walk, and those two things really get me started in the morning and have a productive day.

#4 What is your go-to drink or snack for productive energy.

So I know that I mentioned loving tea, but my go-to drink has to be yerba mate, which is like an organic drink that’s mostly good for you, someday I’m going to get them to sponsor the podcast.

#5 What does a very productive day look for you?

A productive day involves me accomplishing at least my top 3 most important task. And it also involves me having sort of a balance between getting things done and having time for rest, relaxation, and doing enjoyable things with my family.

#6 What is your favorite way to rest and recover?

I think two of the things that I enjoy doing are watching YouTube on my iPad and also playing the drums in my garage.

#7 Are you a Mac or PC person and why?

So for the majority of my life, I’ve actually been a Mac person. I just love how the software and hardware work so well together. I love the premium feel and I love the way it makes me feel like a very important person. Ah, That’s actually true.

#8 What is one of the best business books you have read?

So many good books that I’ve read the last few years, but I would have to say, the one that rises to the top of my mind is “Profit First”, by Mike Michalowicz, which really has transformed the way that I manage money and helped me be so much more confident in how I manage my business finances.

#9 If you were a hot sauce, what would your spice level be? (1-10 with 10 being the hottest).

So I’ve been working my spice tolerance, in general, but this is more of a personality question. But, I think I would say that personally-wise I’m about a 5 or 6 I’m a pretty mellow person. But when it comes to eating tacos and things like that I think I like to kick it up to a 7 or 8 at least.

#10. Where can people find out more about you and what you do?

Head on over to productivetherapist.com and you will learn all the things you need to know.

And we have a bonus question here:

Bonus Question: What is one of your best tips for success and happiness?

So obviously a difficult question to answer, but I think two of the things that come to mind are double-down on your strengths, focus on the things you are really truly good at and don’t compare your success to anybody else’s. Set your goals that line up with your own values and then you’ll get to the space where you want to be.

Thanks so much for listening and I hope you really enjoy this podcast series. Have a great day!
